Did someone say Birthday Party?
the Party Carriage is a great place to hold a child's birthday party. It was originally built for the Tasmanian Mainline Railway Company in 1885 and has recently been restored by our volunteers into our Party Carriage. Whilst keeping the traditional historic feel on the outside, the inside has been transformed with bright colours and bench seating on the inside.
How many people does it hold?
The Party Carriage is limited to seat up to 15 small children (depending on age) plus adults.
There are also picnic tables and a deck area outside the carriage.
NOTE: The booking party is responsible for adhering to any Public Health directives regarding Covid-19 and any social distancing requirements.
When is the Party Carriage available for hire?
Our Party Carriage is available for hire as and is only available on Sundays between 1pm - 4pm.
How much is it?
The Party Carriage fee is $150. This includes entry for 2 adults and a maximum of 15 children (under the age of 18) and a cleaning fee is also included.
Children under the age of 2 years old are free of charge and can be additional to the 15 children limit.
Note: There must be appropriate children supervision at all times.
Additional Adult guests are welcome to attend. Our Non Train Ride Day fee applies for all additional Adults guests ($11 each), Concession Card guests ($9). This is to be paid on the day at Reception.
NOTE: To be eligible for the Non Train Day entry fee, a list of guests names MUST be provided to our Reception staff on the day of the party.
What is provided?
Trestle tables are provided (with paper table cloths. BYO your pencils)
Bench seating is provided down one side of the carriage and plastic chairs on the opposite side of the tables.
Can I decorate?
Yes, you can decorate the carriage, please only use Blu Tack to attach things to the walls (no sticky tape). Hooks are located in various positions throughout the carriage that can be used.
Is the area secure for children?
Currently the Party Carriage is fenced with a temporary orange safety barrier. In the coming months the entire picnic area surrounding the carriage will be fenced with pool fencing and a gate and your hire fee will include the private use of the entire picnic area and carriage. Until then, children must be fully supervised.

The Tasmanian Transport Museum reserves the right to cancel events in extreme circumstances. Full refunds will be provided in this instance.
We know that in these uncertain times of Covid-19 that sometimes people get sick at short notice. We will provide a full refund if you need to cancel. Please contact us if you need to cancel a booking.
Train rides only operate on selected days, therefore we cannot guarantee you a train ride for your party. If the train is in operation on the day of your selected booking, then you may ride the train free of charge as many times as you like. Children must be supervised on the train at all times.
Children MUST be supervised by adults at all times when on the museum site.
